Magic: Mathmeldi is a master of Conjuration and Illusion, being able to cast spells that not even the most learned of Mages or Scholars could dream of. His Illusion Spells are unmatched, as he is able to fool those around him of his appearance, the appearance of the landscape and even the appearance of conjured creatures he may have with him. His Conjuration Spells are obviously very powerful, as it was one of the schools required to make him the lich he is today. His summoning powers go so far as to bring powerful daedra, atronarchs and undead onto Nirn, such as the greater of the Xivilai, fellow Liches and even the rare Wrathman spell. Unlike most mages, his Magicka does not run out so easily. This is due to the enchanted Ayleid crown he wears and his thousands of years of self-taught Magick
Thaumaturgy also played a large role in him becoming a lich, as it was this school that empowered his body with black magicks. It was, in a way, similar to Illusion spells but was actually able to bend the physical laws of Nirn and beyond instead of just making them appear different or such. His powers in this school are rarely matched and his prowess in it is almost masterful, as he has once transported himself to various planes of Oblivion (such as The Shivering Isles). A few of the more ancient spells in this school elude him, but he was around during the ancient times and thus has the majority of the school's powers at his disposal
Training: Mathmeldi was taught the history of his race before Saint Alessia and her forces destroyed them, as well as the secrets of Ayleid Magicks. In later life, he learned how to write using Daedric Runes and how to speak in the almost unknown Daedric tongue
Other Abilities: Basic Combat Skills
Apparel: Mathmeldi sports the remains of his once prestigious Ayleid robe and the crown of a powerful Ayleid Mage and King of Wendelbek (which he stole after assassinating him). Aside from those, he wears a few enchanted Ayleid rings and a necklace that boost the amount of Magicka he has

Personality: Mathmeldi was a cold member of the Ayleid race, but one of the most cunning. Passionate but emotionless, he strived to be (and succeeded in becoming) a great mage. As he grew older, his Megalomania grew stronger until he eventually assassinated and usurped the Mage King of Wendelbek. When he was cast out of the Ayleid's society a few years later, his seeking of immortality drove him to become sociopathic and cynical. As millennias went by, he became more callous and uncaring but even so his growing power made him more insane.
Presently, he is dispassionate, sociopathic, cold-hearted, megalomaniacal but also curious of what mysteries still elude him.
Mathmeldi was born during the First Era in the Ayleid Kingdom of Wendelbek. He, like many of his Ayleid bretherin, was taught extensively about Magick and it's incredible powers. Unlike his fellow scholars, he wasn't interested in the history and theory of Magicks but instead interested in their power. He rivaled even his teacher by the time he was in his 90's and the King of Wendelbek knew this. After a little turmoil, he was appointed as the head Mage.
Illusion seemed to interest him the most at that moment, due to the fact that it could be used to fool and control others. Many a day was spent locked in his study with a student or two practising his unrivaled Illusion spells on them; partly to research how well they worked but also for the pleasure he gained in making others look foolish. 30 years before the Ayleids were destroyed, he discovered a spell in an ancient Ayleid tome brought back by some scavengers. It allowed him to disguise himself as someone else, or something else. Using the base materials required to cast this, he fashioned his own spell that would allow him to tweak how the environment appeared to those he would cast it on.
10 years of practise meant he had perfected this wonder of a spell. This meant he could finally do what he had planned during that time; assassinate, impersonate and thus usurp the throne of Wendelbek. He managed to get the king away from the city and toyed with his mind until he was easy prey. The king lay dead and Mathmeldi took his crown and jewels, keeping his own robe seeing as the King's was soaked in blood. Although it was difficult, he managed to trick the citizens of Wendelbek into thinking that he was the King and that Mathmeldi had simply disappeared. The stress of applying constant Magicka to this illusion drove Mathmeldi almost insane, and eventually he couldn't keep it up. The spell wore off for good and the real Mathmeldi could be seen. The Ayleids of Wendelbek branded him a traitor and cast him out of their city. Not long after, Saint Alessia and her forces destroyed what civilization remained in each Ayleid city and they were driven into savagery.
Alessia's forces conquered the majority of Ayleids and their settlements, even going so far as to hunt down the ones that escaped. Mathmeldi was able to disguise himself using his Illusion magicks and cunning wit until it all calmed down. When Alessia and her forces claimed control, Mathmeldi became much more of a recluse and hid himself away in makeshift workstations in caverns and ruins all over Cyrodil. When he could take the stress of disguising himself via Illusion magick, he could pass through settlements and towns easily; this was only used defensively, however, as he was more concerned with his studies. Rumours of the battle of Glenumbria Moors made him even more paranoid about Alessia's forces, but nevertheless he kept up his various disguises when he had to.
Tales of the Dwemer-Chimer war reached his ears whenever he was travelling through towns. With all the turmoil in Morrowind and the absence of Alessia's forces there, he fled to a rural marshy area on the outskirts of the Chimer's land (later the Dunmer's land following the aftermath of the Battle of Red Mountain). He took on the disguise and persona of an aging Dunmer named Ulvoain Theres when he traveled into towns, although this was rare considering he did most of research in secret.
Mathmeldi, although young for an elf, sought immortality. He spent the next five centuries searching for it. It was difficult as this sort of thing was rare in First Era, but after some heavy reading and meticulous searching, he found the answer. It was necromancy and thaumaturgy that was required to perform the ritual for the gift of eternal life. Now in his 1200's, he had to learn fast. Mathmeldi spent the next century learning all there was to know about necromancy and conjuration, and had learned enough of the school of Thaumaturgy that was required to perform the ritual, becoming learned enough to perform the ritual (with the various plants, minerals and other items required, which he had gathered before teaching himself about necromancy). Once the ritual was complete, the transformation was successful. The black magics had seeped into his body and his soul was lost. His handsome appearance faded and became that of an rotting, weak corpse. Although he knew this was what was required to become immortal (a lich), he wasn't fully prepared for the effects of looking how he did. It wasn't much of a problem, as he could use his Illusion powers to hide his true form for days at a time if need be. The only real thing he wasn't prepared for was the ease of losing what little sanity remained within him, but it didn't matter. Not like he was the slightest bit sane before the transition into Lichdom...
The rest of the First Era was spent in Cyrodil, finding what remnants of his people remained in the ruins of their cities. Wendelbek was the one Ayleid ruin he left alone, for it was a dark part of his past. Whenever he wasn't researching, he invented personalities for himself depending on which town he was in. e.g., in Bruma he was a Nord named Gunnar the Kindly, in Anvil he was an Imperial merchant named Quintus Aurius; whatever suited his needs. The End of the Alessian order put a smile on his face, but by then he didn't really care as much. It was also at this time that he delved into the school of Thaumaturgy much further and began researching it and practising it along with his Illusion and Conjuration magicks.
Mathmeldi briefly spent a time disguised as an apprentice mage to allow him to work with one of the last members of his race and a great sage, Tjurhane Fyrre. Fyrre taught him further in the school of Thaumaturgy and gave him a lot of the knowledge he has on it today. Strangely, he is rather cold when Fyrre dies and is angered to he could not learn more from him. To increase his rage further, the anti-necromantic Mages Guild was formed 3 years later. For the next few centuries, he spent a brief time as himself to battle with them. This small conflict between him and the Mages of the Mages Guild was never documented (most likely because all of his victims went mad).
Knowing that he should conserve him efforts and use them to procure further information into the study of magick, he decided to passively anger the Mages guild by forming several necromancer groups in Cyrodil. He drove his efforts into the study on Conjuration (and, in secret, Thaumaturgy) in the coming centuries, never attacking the Mages (or sometimes the Fighters) guild unless they should attack first. With that notion, he faded into distant myth amongst the Mages guild's members and he continued to study necromancy and thaumaturgy for the rest of the second era (which lead to the ability to resurrect people or creatures with only one of their body parts, and in the case of Thaumaturgy allowed him to venture to Oblivion for a short while).
The third era was spent away from magic for a while, instead dabbling in Imperial politics while under an illusive disguise. Mathmeldi's most prominent action during this time was provoking two leaders of prominent villages, which lead them to both be completely wiped out. Their bodies became part of necromancy experiments and studies in the future.
During the Oblivion Crisis, Mathmeldi disguise himself a Dremora Lord and fought during the siege of Kvatch before the Hero of Kvatch wiped out the daedric threat that remained. When not on the battlefield, Mathmeldi used this as time to learn about the elusive dremora culture and became a firsthand expert on the subject. When the Crisis ended, he used the remains of the bodies of the dead villagers to continue his study of necromancy, being able to resurrect a person for a time from just a grain of dust that was once their skin. His time in the realm also allowed him to further study his Thaumaturgy, specifically the spells requiring the caster to memorise an area so that they may teleport to it whenever they wish. It was difficult, but even after all the gates had been closed he was able to teleport back to the plane (albeit he didn't stay for long, due to the punishments many of the dremora were receiving for failing to take over Tamriel).
The fourth era was spent industriously, to say the least. In the years leading up to the Dragon Crisis, Mathmeldi delved further into the school of Thaumaturgy. It was at this time that he mastered form manipulation, despite the fact that it was rare in modern times and only a few mages knew of it's workings. It was a labourious task, but he mastered this aspect of magick within a few decades. When the Dragon Crisis came along, Mathmeldi hunted very few of the dragons, the ones the Dragonborn didn't get to. Despite his cold personality, he'd prefer Nirn to remain intact... for now. Once it was over, he went back to studying Thaumaturgy.
