Before the sound of shells hitting the town of the Busee's had even faded away, the crew of MAF Helicopter-3129 were gearing up. Leftennant Benjamin Walker pulled on his flight gloves, and glancing into the mirror that hung over the rusted locker that served as his personal equipment container, catching a glimpse of his greying black hair, and ice blue eyes. He was clean shaven, with sunken in cheeks and a pale complexion. He was wearing the uniform of the MAF, olive drabs with black highlaced boots and brown gloves. Next came his helmet, covering his buzzed hair. He didn't fasten it yet, planning on doing that after he had strapped himself into his craft.
Nearby, flight officer Percival Trelven was whistling a tune to himself as he walked by, slapping his commander on the back as he did. "What's the status sir?" Benjamin managed to chuckle, shaking his head. "Artillery strikes out by the fuckin' Busee's. We're going to do a sweep by the area, make sure it's not any of those blood sucking highlander wankers. Tell Erin to ready up her door gun, would ya?"
"Wiiith pleasure boss. Hopefully we get to kill some raiders today, eh?" With that Percival walked out of the equipment room, whistling again.
Within five minutes, the crew of Three-One-Two-Niner walked out, side by side from their equipment locker as the Government issued radio played out across the secluded airfield. Their craft lay there, the rotor already spinning thanks to the efforts of the co-pilot and navigator, Bellen. The other man waved at the three as they approached, making some idle small talk as they all strapped themselves into their places on the helicopter.
Benjamin spoke into the microphone into the crews headsets, his former mirth gone. "Alright lads. Missions going to be simple today. Quick sweep by the Busee's to check out whatever the hell that racket was, and then we're going to report home."
Percival pulled back the rack on his machine gun, ejecting a bullet like an asshole. Benjamin made a note to scold the young man later for his wastefulness, leaving it off for now as Percival spoke. "So we're going to shoot some fucking savages, right?" There was chuckling from the other two members of the crew, and Benjamin rolled his eyes as he took the heli into the air. "We're going to shoot anything that fucking moves."
"Woo!" "Yeah!" "Fucking -finally-." Percival groaned out of some odd pleasure. It was a rare day the Three-One-Two-Niners got to fire their guns at live targets these day.
------
At the same time that the crew of the ship was waking up from their night of celebration, the Three-One-Two-Niners arrived within sight range. Benjamin's eyes went wide as he saw what it was, recognizing it from his extensive training simulations.
"Is that the ship that did it boss?" Percival chimed from the back of his machine gun.
"Who gives a shit? We're shooting at it. It's off the coast, close enough for those beasties on it to open fire...let's give them a welcome to England lads!"
And with that, the Leftennant pressed down on the button of his stick, and his co-pilot did the same. A barrage of armor piercing gatling gun rounds, and lighter missiles came flying out at the dazed and hungover crew.

When Willem woke up he saw that several crewmembers were still asleep. He didn't had much of an hangover, because he is a "professional drinker" as he would say, other would prefer the term Alcoholist but nobody ever disagreed with Willem so it became professional drinker. The only thing he had an hangover from was with the situation with Alex, but now was not the time to think about that, and before climming the stairs to the main deck he thought Fucking womans .. they only good for headache's
When on the main deck he meeted several crewmembers without clothes on, so after the occasional yelling and getting mad, the crew was quickly getting their dicipline back, and their clothes. When entering the messhall he was greeted by Ash.
What can I get you Cap?
Willem looked up to him and before he could even spit out a word crew member came running in yelling about an "iron bird" in the sky. Willem too had some simulation training back in his youger years in the Vault of Amsterdam so he could guess what it was, an helicopter or plane. he facepalmed himself while mumbling
what a fucking morning it is
Then he regained himself and grabed the poor crewmember by his coat and started to yell at him
Go ring the alarm and man the AA guns, damnit are you guys that stupid! shoot it down!
He then turned to Ash with a disturbed look on his face, Alex ..
Ash, find Hans and coördinate the defences I need to find Alex
The moment he said it the Arial Alarms went off. Everybody knew what to do, the AA guns got loaded and prepared for use, also the ship started to make speed and make tactical evasion movements, but because its a ship getting speed was not something that happend fast.
While Ash was doing his part, Willem rushed out to find Alex. Knocking over crewmembers that were in his way he sprinted towards where they last saw eachother, on top of the bridge. While running up the steel stairs towards the bridge he looked at the side and saw that it was an Helicopter, and it was firing already. The first dozen of rounds hitted the water before comming up at the ship, and Willem was exactly in its line of firing. He kept running towards the ladder and with the horrible sound of machine gun fire getting closer he was just in time to take cover behind the steel plating of the bridge roof, but it wasnt effective.
While Alex wasnt on top of the bridge no more, Willem found himself in a fucked-up situation. Bullets gazed trough the armor plating just missing him in inches. he drawed his rifle and with his right leg on top of the steel plate railing he fired 3 rounds towards the heli, just before he could see a missle coming towards him. "aah fuck no" Willem thought just before the missle hitted the steel plate railing and blowing it, and his right lower leg to utter scraps.
Willem flew trough the air to land with his back on the main deck, he looked at his leg to saw that it was blown away, then the pain kicked in. it was intense pain, continuelly present so he started to curse while yelling for Ash
Where the fuck is Ash! Bring him over! Godverdomme! MEDIC!
then he passed out, blood loss, but before passing out he thought
Where did my rum go .. ?
All hope's where on Ash, Alex, Hans and the crew, now more than ever.

Alex awoke, cold and thirsty. A shiver ran down her spine, which made her head shake. She placed her hands on the cold steel ground, and they instinctively flinched. She quickly lifted off the ground, and onto her feet. She backtracked her way to the mess hall, where there was hot coffee being served to the crew, most of whom were suffering from a hangover. Alex poured herself a cup, and sat down in a seat, and drank her coffee, sighing over the previous day's events.
A loud noise penetrated the ship, Alex, like most of the others made their way to the deck where they could find what this noise was. She did not expect what she saw. She had no idea, it was flying through the sky. Something detached from it and flew into the ship, creating an explosion. And guns from either side spun up and began raining bullets upon the ship.
Alex instinctively raised her rifle up at the helicopter, and guesstimated where the helicopter would be when the bullet would hit, and squeezed the trigger. The .308 round went through the windscreen, but Alex was back in cover before she could see if the bullet hit her target.

When Willem walked out to look at the sky and mumbled to himself, Ash followed, seeing the aircraft carried by its whirling blades. "Well fuck." Was all he managed to say, before Willem had begun barking orders. "Go ring the alarm and man the AA guns, damnit are you guys that stupid? Shoot it down!" He then quickly turned to Ash. "Ash, find Hans and coordinate the defenses. I need to find Alex." Ash nodded, bolting off towards engineering. As he made his way down stairs and through the labyrinth of corridors, finally reaching one of the main engine rooms. He pulled over a passerby. "Where is Hans?" "Hans? Oh, he's over there." The person told him, pointing to an adjacent corridor. He quickly moved to the corridor, finding Hans speaking with another engineer.
"Hans, we're under attack from the sky, we need to get up top and organize defense." Hans nodded, quickly ushering away the engineer. As they ran through the corridors to reach the deck, Hans questioned him. "Who are we up against?" Ash shook his head, not quite sure himself. "Either the Royals or the Government, whoever they are, they have some sort of flying vehicle, and you can bet it's probably armed." As if to prove his point, they heard a dull thud from the deck. Explosives, probably missiles. "And what's Willem doing?" Hans asked. "Looking for Alex. Our Captain, always the hero aye?" He smirked, as they finally reached the deck. And it was chaos.
Everywhere, crew were running around, yelling and screaming in panic. While they had drilled for an air-raid before, none of them had ever expected one. Ash heard one single rifle shot fired at the machine, and it shuddered in the air, stopping for a second, before pulling back at an alarming rate. It wasn't shooting the ship anymore. For now at least. However, before he could take a moment to breath a sigh of relief, one of the crewman ran over to him screaming, saying Willem was hurt and needed him. Ash told Hans to co-ordinate the AA guns, which were now finally turning to face the flying contraption, ready to shoot when it got back within accurate firing range. Then he yelled at the crewman. "What the bloody hell you yelling at me for you fucking nob jockey? Go get the medic! Jesus bloody christ." He sighed as he jogged over to where the Captain supposedly was, a bunch of men crowded around him. He made his way through them. "Hey Cap, i got Hans, he's organizing defense as we speak, did you find A-Oh shit!" He exclaimed, as he saw Willem unconscious on the floor, his leg in bloody tatters. After a moment of shock, Ash realized he'd have to amputate and cauterize the wound, or the Captain would die of blood loss long before a medic arrived. "Someone pass me a good knife and some rum." He said, his grim expression obvious in his voice. A moment later and they were both put on the ground beside him. He looked to the unconscious Captain, then to the leg. "Hey Cap, this is gonna fucking hurt, so i'll make sure you get all the rum you want tomorrow. Fuck, now how am i gonna go about this..."
Ash poured a little rum on the blade of the knife, and then some more on the part of the leg he was going to cut. He raised the blade high into the air, then after a moment of hesitation, brought it down into the leg. It cut deeply into the already weakened flesh, but didn't go all the way through. He raised the blade again, lower this time, bringing it down in the same place. He repeatedly cut through limb, loose gore spray all across the deck, as well as across Ash's clothes. A few crew members turned away, unable to watch, and some others gave Ash fearful looks as he continued to cut. Finally the leg gave, and he threw it idly to the side. This wasn't the first time he'd hacked someones limbs off, although previously keeping them alive hadn't been important. He put the blade aside, grabbing his handy welding torch from his side. The Captain was lucky he always kept it with him. He then went about the business of cauterizing the wound, until all the corrupted flesh had been burnt away, and the wound was no longer weeping blood. He turned off the torch, putting it back at his side, then poured a little more rum on the wound just for good measure. Then he took a swig and put the rest beside the Captain. "Well, that's all i can do until the Doc gets here." He said, standing up and turning around, immediately noticing how far back the group had moved.

((The helicopter would have left before your AA guns started firing, so for times sake I'll just say that it has gotten the fuck outta dodge. Alex, due to being one of the few not hung over, also shot the co-pilot in the gut.))

Willem was quickly brought to the Medical centre while the Heli left the area again. the ship was heavily damaged and couldn't go make much speed, Hans decided to get out of the area at slow speed and when the cap would recover and change plans again.
Willem woke up after an half our or so, his head was dizzy and he had a burning feeling at his leg. he looked down and paniced right away Where is my Leg!
he looked at his right and saw Alex sitting next to him on a stool he imidiatly sat up on his bed with his back against the steel plate wall of the ship
Alex, what are you doing here?
Guarding you
Pff .. Guarding me, its just a scratch
Quite a large scratch
Before Willem could react Hans came walking in, With a bottle of rum in one hand, a wooden leg in the other. Willem gladly accepted the bottle and uncorked him, took some sips while listening to what Hans had to say.
Well Cap, Nice aint it! made it just for you! even with a steel tip, sit still
The Leg was perfectly fitted for Willem, and when it was finally adjusted, with straps to his underwear. Then Hans left again and winked to Alex to give her a hint ... to make a move on the injured Cap.
Willem moved to the side of his bed and tryed to put some weight on it, it still hurted. he nearly felt but Alex helped him to stay on it. it felt strange, and even stranger, with every step his wooden leg made an *Tonk* sound on the steel floor
Help me get to the Bridge please
With Alex help he managed to get to the Bridge and when there he sat in his chair and while looking at the blown up roof he said
Don't Think I was looking for you. I forgot my rum
Willem Limped towards the Intercom and asked for Hans and Ash to come over, they would need to wait on them to plan the next move so while waiting he limped back to his chair, sat down again with his bottle of rum and all he could say was:
Why ...

Alex was waiting by the Captain's side, she had been since the medics deemed him out of immediate medical danger. His leg was amputated knee-down. When the Captain awoke, he quickly panicked, but Alex jumped up and held his shoulder, and grabbed one of his hands.
"Where is my Leg!"
"The helicopter ripped it apart. I'm so sorry."
"Alex, what are you doing here?"
"Guarding you"
"Pff .. Guarding me, its just a scratch"
"Quite a large scratch"
Hans walked in, with two items in his hands. A bottle of rum, quite a trademark of this ship, and a wooden leg. Both were for the Captain.
"Well Cap, Nice aint it! made it just for you! even with a steel tip, sit still"
Alex looked between the Captain, Hans, and the wooden leg quite a bit during the fitting process, and she could swear Hans winked at her.
Willem moved, intending to stand on the leg. Alex helped him onto his feet, or rather, foot and peg.
"Help me get to the Bridge please"
Alex nodded, and walked with him to the bridge, not talking throughout the journey. She helped him sit down into his chair, and stood beside him.
"Don't Think I was looking for you. I forgot my rum"
Alex helped him up again, over to the intercom.
"Why"
"They didn't like what we did to that town."

Soon after the medic arrived to take Willem away, Ash took his chance to leave the crowd, going off to look for Hans. As he went from crewman to crewman, he asked around to see if he could find Hans location. Finally a trail of clues led him to the bridge. He climbed the stairs until her reached the door, and raised his hand to knock. However before he did, a thought crossed his mind. 'Maybe cutting off the Captain's leg was a little too much. What if the medic made it in time and it could have been saved?' He remained in thought for a moment later, before shrugging. 'Oh well, what's done is done. No time to worry about consequences.' And with that, he briefly knocked on the door, then entered.
"Hans, how fairs the flying machine? Blasted that damn thing out of the sky yet?" "Sadly it is gone, but I guess it ain't coming back either." Ash gazed out across the sky, trying to catch a glimpse of the retreating Helicopter, but the cloudy skies provided too much cover. "Damn shame, i'm sure Willem would like to give them a little payback." Hans nodded in agreement. "They did a number on our ship. Need to find a safe place to land sometime soon." This time it was Ash's turn to nod. "Oh yeah, they managed to injure the Captain, he's in medical right now. He had to get his leg amputated, but i'm pretty sure he'll live." He decided to leave out the fact that he had to perform the amputation however. Hans gave him a shocked expression, seemingly at a loss of words for the time being. After a few more minutes of silence, Ash decided to speak up. "Well, i'm going to see if the Captain's 'lady-in-waiting' made it out okay. Keep up the good work, i'll let you know if we get an update on Willem." The two said their goodbyes, and Ash swiftly departed.
After making his way back down the stairs, Ash made his way to the crew quarters, however there was no sign of Alex in the primary living quarters, nor in the area that Willem had been headed to look for her. After a while of searching, he sighed to himself, deciding to check the kitchen next. When he moved to leave the room, the intercom system suddenly blared to life, the Captains words streaming out. "Ash, Hans, get your asses down to the Bridge now." Ash cracked a smile beneath his mask, looking over to the nearest intercom. "The bastards up quicker than expected. Ha! That's our Captain for you." He quickly made his way back to the Bridge, and arrived to find Hans already talking with Willem. He was a little relieved to see Willem conscious, and not whining to much about his leg. "Ah, Captain, good to see you aren't bleeding all over our newly cleaned floors."

Just before Willem wanted to yell at Alex for giving such an answer, luckly, Hans walked in. He opened the heavy oak wood door and seated himself with his bump on his desk and said:
Ha Willem, you needed me?
Willem looked up and offered Hans his bottle, who gladly accepted. then he got up, already getting more comfortable with his wooden leg, he shivered a bit and noded to Hans while he spoke:
Aye, Indeed. I need a full damage report of the ship, include the materials we need, have and miss for the repairs. Im fully confident I can leave that task to you my old pal.
They both smilled at eachother, thinking of their long lasting history from back in Holland. Hans took a swig of the bottle and then gave it back to the Captain, also with a little note. Then he bolted off, leaving for the task at hand.
Willem read the note while Hans left:
One of our Craft officers died, we need to replace him. I know you are not too fond with this idea, but I recomend Alex. I noticed this morning she took a shot at the heli, and actually hitted the damn thing too. considered it
Willem walked over to one of the shattered windows and looked down at his ship. While most of the damage was done to the hull and the bridge, looking out of the window with the shattered glass made him feel a bit sad, and spoke out loud of the old days back in the vault
What would have happened if I stayed in the Vault? I would have ruled my own kingdom, had servants and everything, and most of all, I probably won't got shot by a helicopter.
But before he could ramble on about the old days, another person walked in, Ash, With a cheerfull comment as always:
"Ah, Captain, good to see you aren't bleeding all over our newly cleaned floors."
Willem laughed and gave Ash a pat on his back, offered him a seat and looking at the floor. He noticed that while the attack was not so long ago the floor was indeed already cleaned. but more out of joking then anything else he said:
You call this clean? I wouldn't let my dog sleep here if I had any!
Followed by an outburst of laughter he walked over to the map drawer, taking out the Mid-West England map again and layed it on his desk. Now, while speaking he walked back and forth in the bridge room talking both to Alex and Ash at the same time, each two steps leaving the remarkable sound of his feet and peg.
Okay, back to business. we need a place to moor. best thing is a remote Island or something. I want both your oppions on this as I both trust you highly on your loyalty and insights. If you look you see two Islands relatively nearby, Ilse of Man and Ilse of Arran. One of them it has to be
He suddenly stoped and made a quick turn to face both of his crewmembers. He flinched at that move, his leg not really properly healed for this kind of move. As his crew thought about the idea he remembered the note Hans gave him again. So he walked over to Alex and made a sign with his hands to follow him
Ash, this won't take long, make me proud again of your idea when I come back, aye?
And With a wink and smile he and Alex steped out the Bridge. The wind had took on in power blowing from the coast to sea, delivering relatively warm wind towards the ship. Willems hair blew in the wind and with the nice smell of wasteland sea he felt himself a bit beter again.
they strolled to the back end of the bridge deck (not the bridge building itself, but the deck attached to it), and While there he turned around again and placed both his hands on Alex shoulders. while first looking away before looking back at Alex he started his sort of "I'm sorry speech"
Look, I am not really good at this things, as most of the time I am always right. but I want to say I am sorry if I was a bit over protective, but I like you. Nevertheless, I heared what you did this morning, and I am impressed. so to sort of make it up with you, how would you like an Officer spot? just like Ash.
He let go of her shoulders again and with a bit of shame in his eye's he looked from Alex, to the sea and back waiting till she decided on his offer.

Alex followed the captain, not leaving his side. She looked away while he read the note, not wanting to interfere with business that was not hers. She followed Willem to the window, and looked between him and the damaged parts of the ship.
"What would have happened if I stayed in the Vault? I would have ruled my own kingdom, had servants and everything, and most of all, I probably won't got shot by a helicopter."
Alex was about to respond, but Ash walked in. After their little joke, they all walked over to the map, and Alex surveyed it.
"Okay, back to business. we need a place to moor. best thing is a remote Island or something. I want both your oppions on this as I both trust you highly on your loyalty and insights. If you look you see two Islands relatively nearby, Ilse of Man and Ilse of Arran. One of them it has to be"
"Arran is smaller, and whoever attacked us would search the larger isles first."
Suddenly, the Captain signalled for her to follow him. She did, and they walked to the deck.
"Look, I am not really good at this things, as most of the time I am always right. but I want to say I am sorry if I was a bit over protective, but I like you. Nevertheless, I heared what you did this morning, and I am impressed. so to sort of make it up with you, how would you like an Officer spot? just like Ash."
Willem looked away shyly. Alex smiled, and grabbed his cheeks, pulled his head towards hers, and kissed him.
"It would be my honor, Captain."

Willem offered Ash a seat, before joking. "You call this clean? I wouldn't let my dog sleep here if I had any!" Ash let out a low chuckle, and Willem went over to a draw, taking out a map and laying it out on the table. "Okay, back to business. We need a place to moor. Best thing is a remote Island or something. I want both your opinions on this as I both trust you highly on your loyalty and insights. If you look you see two islands relatively nearby, The Ilse of Man and The Ilse of Arran. One of them it has to be." Alex spoke up first. "Arran is smaller, and whoever attacked us would search the larger isles first." Ash thought about the options for a moment, and was about to speak up when the Captain winced in pain, then moved over to Alex and signaled her. Shortly after he approached Ash. "Ash, this won't take long, make me proud again of your idea when I come back, aye?" "Aye Captain. I wish you luck with the woman." He made another low chuckle, then grabbed the map and leaned back into his chair, thinking once more.
Both islands were good positions, away from the mainland but still populated enough that they may be bare supplies. But which island? Man was indeed larger, and closer to the Brits, however it was still pretty far out. The only issue is that if they could not repair the Liberator, the island would be their grave. There was no way to return to the mainland. Arran on the other hand was smaller and further from the British, and may even have a bridge leading to land if they needed it. Ash's only objections were that it would have less supplies and that the nearby land belonged to the Highlanders. Ash himself had never encountered the inhabitants of Scotland, being from the south himself, but he had heard the stories. They were like Raiders, only their raids would put a Raider to shame. They may not have had the best weapons, but they were fast, effective and a terrifying sight to behold. Needless to say, he wasn't keen on finding out for himself. When the Captain returned, looking a little flustered and with Alex a behind him, Ash shared his thoughts with them. However he left his end decision up to the Captain.

After the kiss Willem felt weird. is this what they call 'love'? he thought. He looked her deep in her eye's and smiled, but as always business came first so he spoke up
Lets save this for later, we can't let Ash wait right?
They walked back, Willem secretly grabbed Alex hand and squised it softly before opening the door, still holding her hand as they entered the Bridge. He walked to the middle of it and spoke up to Ash
Ash, before we go over to the business part, i can be assured that this, for now, require's a little bit of descression
He looked at Alex's hand and back to Ash when saying this, then he let go of her hand and walked over to the map
My Idea is Aran, as it is smaller and if there is resistance it will be less, and what about you? did you had a thought over it?
Willem Listened to what Ash had to say, and came to the conclussion that Aran was indeed the best place to head for. He gave orders to Hans and the Engine room crew to prepare the engine, Half speed ahead. this was to save fuel and so their pumps could keep up with keeping their feet dry.
When they where about half on our on their way he dismissed Ash and Alex from any duty's so he could be alone with his other love, The Liberator. he stood behind the wheel, looking trough the shattered windows while sipping slowly from his bottle of rum. after a few bottle's and several hours behind the Wheel he even started to talk to his own vessel.
We both took a hard beating in our last fight didn't we? But I'm proud of you. We will get those people, I promise you that. I won't let you down, and I will never leave you alone.
He shed a little tear that rolled down his cheek and hung at his chin for awhile before dropping on the floor. He didn't noticed that one of his crew member's who was about to relief him of his duty's was standing in the door opening
Sir? Everything alright? I am here to take over your shift, if we reached our destination I will anchor the ship till further orders. Aye Sir?
Willem turned around, smiled at the man and simply replied with Aye gave the man his bottle and left to get a good nights sleep. It was already 23:00 board time, He had even skipped diner. He walked down the stairs of the bridge to the main deck of the building, but didnt went to the sleeping quarters but went to the bow of the ship. There he sat down listening to the wave's and quietly went to sleep. by the time he would wake up they would already droped anchor near Aran waiting for new orders.

(It's a little late Uruk, but you asked and I delivered.)
It was decided that the Liberator would head for The Isle of Arran, a unanimous decision by all present. Willem decided to take the wheel as they started toward their new destination and Ash was dismissed. There was plenty of damage in need of repair, and Ash spent a fair share of the remaining daylight helping out around the ship to clean things up. Once they started to lose light and most of the critical problems had been resolved, Ash took his leave for the kitchen.
The kitchen was a rush of noise and food, a simple meal being prepared quickly for the men and women who had been working their asses off all day to get the ship back into shape. The mess hall itself was surprisingly derelict when food was being served, many still injured or too exhausted to show. Still, those who arrived were kept in high spirits with hot food and a moderate amount of drink. Ash ate quickly, assisting with the washing up when he was done and heading for his room early. The walk back was quiet except for the dull thud of his boots, but Ash didn’t mind. It had been a chaotic day, a little quiet was fine by him.
Upon finally arriving in his room, Ash abandoned his boots, mask and gloves to the floor, stopping in his bathroom quickly to wash his face before collapsing on his bed. He lay there momentarily, silent and still, before turning himself over to face the ceiling.
“What a tiring day.”
Ash took out the flip-lighter from his pocket, directing it towards the unseeable sky and flicking on and off. On. Off. On. Off. The flicking, as well as the small flame produced seemed to remove the tension from his body, and before long he grew weary. He moved the lighter to a stand beside his bed, then closed his eyes and allowed a dreamless sleep to embrace him.
The following morning Ash was already up by the break of dawn, and after quickly helping with and eating breakfast, grabbed his gear. He continued over to the landing craft, awaiting Willem and his orders.
