Personality: Alessia is a proud outter colonist, coming from a colony only established fourty years ago. She borderlines on obsessive with her pro-UNSC sentiments - a good thing in a soldier, sometimes bad thing in public relations. She expresses intense hostility to Insurrectionists, and it is advised she refrain from engagements with Insurrectionists where care is required. Equal in her hatred is her contempt for the Covenant which borders on Xenophobic and barely is barely restrained from passing over onto Concordat or Neutral ETs. Apart from these flaws and semi-flaws, Alessia is quite a nice person and highly respects herself. She's jovial, and while not overly kind in some situations she is respectful and honour-bound to her squad mates - who she seems to accept as an extended family of sorts.
The young, bright yellow, star colloqueily known as the 'Sole Giovane' (the Young Sun) plays home to an almost perfect "Garden of Eden"-type world. Fourty years ago this planet was settled by a colonist ship carrying largely Italian-descended individuals. They named the planet Palazzo, for it was like a Palace amongst the stars for the weary colonists. The planet was host to the common Earth-like organisms, showing to some the marvels of convergent evolution to exploit similar resources as those on Earth - showing to others the marvels of God repeated throughout the stars.
Palazzo was set up in the typical Pre-fabricated style, but soon expanded to include blooming sectors in mining, agriculture and goods manufacturing. The outer-colony world was experiencing what used to be known as a 'Gold-Rush' of settlers, before a rogue Covenant Sect took notice of the increased traffic and relatively poor defense. The 'Storm Covenant' as they were known to UNSC forces arrived above Palazzo and quickly crippled the UNSC defenses. In a clear message to the UNSC, the Storm Covenant glassed the planet's population centers and hunted the Humans down like dogs on the surface. It was a harrowing year before the UNSC forces could break the Storm Covenant lines, forcing them to retreat to their dark corners of space. The colony was left in ruins, partially glassed and with barely any usable Infastructure. Ten years had gone to waste, the all important first colony-born generation had all but been erased in the combat.
The survivors tried again, this time the mood was not of success and more a solumn attempt to rebuild their shattered lives. The colony grew to reflect this loss, it never truly recovered its destroyed economy and the young Alessia was born to construction workers during the attempt to rebuild. She was born in what amounted to a slum, stacked Pre-fabricated structures that housed the construction workers as they rebuilt the colony. Drinking and whoring were a common affair for these colonists that had survived the end of their world, for many it was all that was keeping them going after the loss of their families. The colony had gone from a shining medal on the UNSCs chest to a hot-bed of Insurrectionist sentiment and attacks. Aliens refused to even make port with the planet, known for its Xenophobic presence and Insurrectionist attacks against UNSC structures were almost a weekly occurance. This was the world Alessia found herself growing up in: her father one of these construction workers and her mother a hardly at home UNSC Marine. Her parents did their best to send her to one of the few schooling systems to keep her from becoming yet another street urchin. She was tutored in mathematics, Italian and English - with a scratching of the various sciences atop it. The education was sub-UNSC standard, but from it arose a determined young girl.
The decision between the UNSC and the Insurrectionists was made for her when the Insurrectionists attacked her school. It was run by the UNSC Colonial Aid Corps, but Insurrectionists merely saw the 'UNSC' logo outfront and stormed the building. A bomb, triggered in a car parked outside the building, reduced a number of the classrooms - and tragically their occupents - to rubble. Insurrectionists stormed the building, snatching the tutors and dragging them off to the main assembly hall. The terrified children were rounded up, several who were known to the Insurrectionists as being the son or daughter of UNSC personnel were beaten to near death before being dragged half-conscious to the same place as the staff. The siege lasted almost a week, due to the sensitive situation of child hostages, before UNSC forces stormed the building. ODSTs - called in from a neighbouring colony - were the first to storm the structure. With clinical precision they silently moved from room to room, incapacitating or killing any Insurrectionist forces they came across.
Alessia was found, huddled alone in a broom closet she had been thrown into. Aged 15, she had attacked one of the Insurrectionists while his back was turned with a chair. While she had been succesful in taking him by surprise and knocking him to the floor, the far more powerful man had been more than a match for her. She had been overwhelmed, beaten, and barricaded in this dark cupboard for three days. Soiled and thirsty, the young girl was picked up and ushered to safety by an ODST soldier who carried her outside. The ODSTs had cleared the building, only to find the tutors and the few students they had dragged off beaten, shot, burnt to death or all other manner of horrible ways to end. Justice was issued to the Insurrectionists, and with the attack on the school came a military crackdown. And the transferral of the young Alessia a year later to a UNSC Military Academy per her own request - and through a scholarship that took into account her life situation, intelligence level and the encounter with the Insurrectionist she begun an education course at the Military Academy for two and a half years. Followed by standard Marine basic and SOI training.
On her first space flight she found herself immediately enraptured by the true enormity of space, and she found herself more than pleased to leave her ruined home behind. To enter into her new life, make her name proud. Her life as a Marine. But that took training and education, two years to be exact. Two years spent in the atmospheric chambers of the Jovian Marine Training Facility, the woodlands of Ganymede and even in exoatmospheric drills. Two long, gruelling years - that in retrospect were a walk in the park to her enlisted deployment.
The first of which was at the fresh age of 18 as a Private aboard the UNSC Liapolis. It's mission was a simple one, an escort frigate for Titanium-A shipments to and from the outer colonies. It was an easy deployment, at first, but several times were the ships attacked by Insurrectionists or worse - Kig'yar Pirates. Not much engagement for a Marine, ship-ship combat, but on the rare occasion a boarding party would attempt to claim the frigate or it's convoy - Alessia got to experience combat first hand. And she became good at it. On-board the Liapolis she received her first promotion, to PFC.
Her deployment for a year on the UNSC Liapolis had brought her a sense of boredom, but with it came a well deserved promotion and a new deployment. An Insurrectionist Hunter, the UNSC Diadom. A Cruiser sent out to suppress Insurrectionist activity and assault their bases. Countless deployments to Insurrectionist-held worlds, to clear out asteroid bases and to provide suppression against possible uprisings. In her element taking the fight back to these rebel scum, Alessia really begun to shine in her superiors eyes. She was the person who always got the job done, that job usually was to reduce several tonnes of solid structure into several smaller chunks. Or a gun placement into a more fragmented form. Her engagements on the Cruiser were few and far between, but they were bloody and harsh. Her first true baptism in fire. A wound to her shoulder from an illegal plasma weapon almost had her handed her honorary discharge, close to burning a hole through her neck or destroying the nerves to her arm - the limb was saved thanks to rapid aid from UNSC medical personnel.
Taking the plasma burn in her stride, Alessia continued on to prove herself a capable Marine - and the promotion to LCpl as her second year came to a close. As soon as her second anniversary in the UNSC came upon her, she signed her ODST enlistment form and sat on her hands while she was vetted to be an ODST. She was accepted, and then her months of ODST training began.
It was gruelling. It was far worse than even real engagements. The first training SOEIV she was launched in landed on its front and, for the brief moments before the observation staff recovered her she found herself experiencing the hell she dropped feet first into. That was just the beginning, having to free herself in a purposely submerged SOEIV was worse. Having to experience a free fall with the majority or her SOEIV systems nonfunctional was worse, to find out that she had to survive for two weeks in a hostile environment with minimal rations and only what she had on her was worse.
But it was worth it. She was an ODST. Granted her armour, her weapons and given a deployment on a UNSC Carrier called the Babylon. She begun her Special Warfare service. Her first drop was in a flanking manoeuvre against a besieged Concordat Insurrectionist outpost. It was the first time she's faced Sangheili in non-simulated combat and it was the most humbling experience of her career. Sangheili were smart, smarter than the Kig-Yar and Jiralhanae. As smart as Humans, if not more so, and definitely more militarily sound. Several times did she almost lose her life in that one engagement, but she was smart too. And Sangheili were predictable. She made it out alive, barely, with the rest if her squad. For two years she served like this, each engagement going averagely better than the last. Each engagement bringing her closer to her next promotion.
Closer to Corporal, and her new assignment onboard the UNSC Myriad after a short stint in NCO training that still continues over live-streamed seminars and remote education. She was there to fill empty boots, a common occurrence for an ODST promotion. She just hoped this new aspect to the small-scale command she was used to wouldn't bog her down too much. Assignment? Fireteam Kraken.
