Sophia was born in Scrub town. Just south of the North Carolina border. The traders called it Scrubtown because of the abundance of skilled medical personnel. This also made them a target for bandits and the like. However, there were almost always traders there to help them out. The reason for so many medical personnel, was that it had two hospitals, and a medical university. This also meant more medical supplies.
Scrub Town, before the war, was overstocked with medical supplies. It was to be a shelter if war broke out, and the US Government wanted to ensure that these shelters had enough medical supplies. Now, no matter how much you have, it will always end. Scrub Town, after being formed, made the scavenging of Hospitals and medical centers vital. They always kept restocking, going further and further out.
Sophia was raised straight from the start to care for people. She seemed to be the purest child in the wasteland. With the many doctors in town, she grew up around medicine. What better way to care for people then to make them feel better! Sophie's medical career started as an assistant to what could be considered a GP.
Slowly she gained knowledge with medicine. After so long with the Doctor, she could diagnose a variety of different ailments and illnesses that were common, radiation sickness, influenza, allergies and the such. Sophie felt like she could benefit more from a specific branch of medicine, and so she went to learn from the primary surgeon of Scrubtown.
This was where she learned the intricacies of surgery. Originally, she started with autopsies of dead raiders, then minor things like bullet holes, and then amputations. You'd assume she'd lose her innocence here, at the sight of such gore, but no, she kept her cheery, ready to care attitude.
As there was already an abundance of doctors in Scrubtown, Sophie decided to try her luck south. One of the caravan guards, Lucy, whom Sophie had patched up quite a few times, decided to repay her by making sure she was safe.
Sophie and Lucy travelled slowly South, they grew quite close in this time period. Eventually, after many a alcoholic beverage, Lucy professed her desire for Sophie, and in Sophie's drunken state, slept with her closest companion.
The hardest part of their journey came when they reached the swampland, close to the Broken Banks area. Their intent was to reach Manteo, where they could look through for supplies, perhaps even looking through the smaller towns. By some miracle, they made it to Manteo City, freshly purged by the Wolves.
Sophie and Lucy were let through on accounts of Sophie being skilled with medicine, and Lucy not being allowed to leave Sophie's side. They split apart, however. Lucy had no skill besides shooting, so she joined the Wolven Military, while Sophie helped with the medical side of things. She could not work for free however. Sophie, being a brilliant surgeon by wasteland standards was a rare find for the Wolves. She was "promoted"/"hired" as a Specialist, serving in Manteo.
The luckiest catch of her life was probably right here. Sophie was given a clinic, a Pre-War clinic to operate out of. It wasn't extremely flash, but it would serve her, and by extension, the Wolves' needs. First, she started with the tools she had carted all the way from Scrubtown, and what she and Lucy managed to scavenge along the way. These drained up quickly, but the Wolves were always in need of medical assistance, it seemed. And payment was always due. 90% of what she earned was spent towards more medical supplies, and she had to save up for quite a while to buy a house. For the first two years she had to live inside of the clinic.
This allowed her to put money towards staff, taking the workload off of her, leaving only the serious things to her. Finding skilled medical staff was a difficult task, so she settled for two people. Doctor Louis Carter, a surgeon that averaged 2 sentences and 3 facial expressions a week. And Doctor Rose Lycroft, a jack of all trades, so to speak of. The new faces were greeted with happiness by the people, fitting in well. Doctor Lycroft came from the Wolves, but Doctor Carter coming from outside of the Banks.
For the years she has been with the Wolves, she finally earned her place. A skilled doctor, trusted by the people. Originally she was met with distrust and caution, but now she actually IS a valuable member of Wolven Society.
