Nalfien was sitting with his legs crossed in a grove facing a large cliff face. His lavender eyes staring deep into the dark opening in the mountain. It had been countless years since he had stared at this place, one of the plenty entrances into his old home, The Underdark.
He was mentally preparing himself. Nalfien may have spent lifetimes gaining experience and wisdom, but to survive alone in the Underdark, requires you to give a part of yourself up and succumb to the primal part of your mind to live in the depths.
His giant dire polar bear Nalah came lumbering by him and plopped herself in the grass with a heavy thud and stared at him with her icy blue eyes with her head resting on the tops of her paws while the rest of her enormous body laid spread out across the ground.
Just as Nalfien began to close his eyes, he heard the soft hooting of his snow white owl somewhere off in the distance.

Naldyn hated it when she needed to go to surface-ward in search of materials for her experiments. Some of them weren't so problematic, things like bat guano and mushrooms she could usually stick with the caves and just rely on her own darkvision, not have to worry about anything out of the ordinary. This, however, was horrid. Thankfully the trees provided adequate cover--and not to mention that Tajo was grateful to spread his wings, but she for her part hated being out in the open. So many places where people could come at you from. Still, as she scavenged the area near the local Underdark entrance, she wasn't too worried. She was finding what she needed and it was well away from anyone who would find her presence... offensive.
Eventually she found everything and whistled for Tajo and started heading for the cave... only to see a massive fuck-off mass of white blocking the way. Immediately she took cover behind a rock and swore to herself. What in the world had she just found?! Was that a polar bear?! What was a polar bear doing all the way out here. Peeking over, she took another quick peek at the beast and saw that it was with someone... a ranger, oooof course. Well, she would rather avoid a fight, and she did prepare invisibility today so... first she cast Protection From Arrows just in case and then began slipping her way forward, hoping to get past the bear and man, though some deep dark part of her suspected she would have to burn her way out.

A snow white owl landed directly in front of Nalfien and began hooting frantically like a young child on a sugar rush. Nalfien opened his eyes and listened to what the tiny thing had to say before it took off in a hurry hooting the entire time. His gaze shifted to Nalah and she pushed herself up with a deep bassy growl. Once she was sitting on her rather large butt she began sniffing the air and looking around with her blue eyes.
Nalfien remained seated with his legs crossed and returned his eyelids to a closed position, letting his ears hone in on his surroundings.

Naldyn wasn't stupid, the moment that the owl started hooting she knew that she'd been caught. Grumbling, she decided to just let the jig up and get out into the open. "That bird of yours has good ears," she stated amicably. The she-drow was wearing a scarlet robe with silver highlights and the hood up, though if his eyes were any good he'd probably be able to piece together that she was a drow. Of course, as she approached to a comfortable distance from the man--very VERY respectful so that the big giant pile of fur and flesh didn't decide to eat her--she too would be surprised to see what appeared to be one of her kinsmen sitting there. Not the most assuring thing ever, actually, but at least she wasn't dealing with a surface elf. "Odd place to hitch your mount, if I may say so myself," she stated very bluntly... she might have meant it as sarcastic, but it was pretty frank in delivery.

"Nalah is not a mount, she is a very old friend with an appetite that rivals giants." Nalfien opened his eyes once more after he spoke and he slowly stood and turned around to look into the face speaking to him. As he rose, Nalah swung her head backward, then forward as she pushed herself to all fours as if it aided in moving her titanic body. She positioned herself a little ways to his left as if it were routine, ready to knock over the trees between her and the small figure in front of them.
As Nalfien looked at the owner of the voice his eyes looked at her with interest. "It has been a while since I have seen another Drow, let alone one with that rare coloring yours has. What do you want Priestess, are you here to haul me back through the Underdark to be a slave to your House?"
At his words Nalah began letting loose a throaty bassy growl while keeping her mouth shut and her eyes fixed on the female Drow.

Naldyn promptly smirked at the notion of the enormous bear being a friend, though she'd definitely buy the appetite thing. Actually, she supposed that only animals could be trusted underground. However, she quickly saw that the situation could become problematic and took a step back, looking up at the bear cautiously before bringing her attention back down to the male. She... she wouldn't say that she thought that males were equals, but she knew better than to underestimate them. And his words seemed to bely how little he knew of her... and of what he thought of the other females. However, rather than take it as a threat (though she knew it probably was to a degree), she instead chuckled at the man's insinuations. "Hardly on either count," she commented, still grinning at him, "I have neither the patience nor resources to bother restraining the razor mind of one of our kind." Though it was nothing to one of her kind. High above, her raven seemed to be trying to keep its distance from the owl, or perhaps it was just keeping an eye on it. Looking back at the man, her expression hardened a little, flexing her fingers a little, "You're simply blocking my path home."

At the females last words, Nalah pushed herself up onto her hind legs, casting an enormous shadow over Nalfien before letting out a roar that shook the area in response to what she took as a threat. Nalfien looked at her, whispering words in a foreign language to her. At his words Nalah fell to all fours again, the weight of her mass shaking the ground. She stood there still and quiet, waiting.
Nalfiens gaze shifted back to the female Drow. "The Underdark is not a home, it's a tomb. The thing is I am not in your way, you're in mine. I intend adding bodies to the coffin and you are here prolonging my task to become reunited with unfavorable individuals. Not only that, but you claim to still inhabit the Underdark, so you see my predicament. I'm tempted to enter alone and have Nalah here have her way with you so that I don't run into any surprises on my way in."

Almost the moment that the bear was on her hind legs Naldyn backpedaled away, getting her share of distance. She didn't think it would protect her, she just had no idea what set the beast off. Thankfully it calmed down, but Naldyn wasn't calm, her hand was in her pouch reaching for her sulfur-coated bat guano. And then the impudent male went on to explain his plans to her and threaten to kill her... oh he was playing with fire. Though, the funny thing was that he was getting riled up over nothing. "Am I standing in your way?" she asked cautiously, before continuing, hand still in her pouch, "No. I'm not in your way. If you in all your bravado think that you can handle our sisters below, then go right ahead. You will have deserved your victory or failure, as will those you kill. The only thing stopping you right now is your insistence on threatening me. I'm willing to forgive verbal slights--words are worthless--but if I have to kill that bear, you had best hope that I can not pursue."

Nalfien hated female Drow, and he was not about to stop. All of them were manipulative, cruel beyond measure, and devious. With the girls words at killing Nalah he fought the urge to laugh in her face. "You think that color in your skin gives you an advantage over most Drow, that part is true, but your face is still young."
One of his Kamas were now in his left hand, effortlessly twirling it around as if warming up before pointing it toward Nalah. The tip of the weapon was aimed at some discoloration in the bears white coat. "The last female that talked about harming my girl and myself was my sister Xune, a high priestess of your "Lolth", needless to say Nalahs appetite was temporarily sated shortly after. Now tell me what it is you're doing here so that I can either dispose of you or continue on with my goal."
His lavender eyes bore into her as his left arm dropped back to his side, the blade of the weapon caressing his leg while he began calculating her position and the different possibilities of what her hand would pull from her bag.

"Advantage. Riiiight." she grumbled, continuing to stand stock still and grip the shit in her bag. He may have had a point about her age, but it was all about mileage, and she had been on quite her share of journeys. The talk about the bear's previous exploits made her crouch a little more, waiting to dart away. She had Haste prepared, so at least that was something, but she needed to be able to survive long enough to cast it. However, what was more alarming was that this guy had killed a priestess... oh and he'd called her a priestess. Oooooooooh crap. Normally she would have been impressed that his upper half wasn't glued to a spider at this point for that kind of insubordination. However, that anger was directed at her, and that was a problem; with that bit of information, lie or not, she didn't like the implications for her. "Very well. I'm simply collecting materials for my experiments. And I'm not a priestess you daft fool! Do you see any holy symbols on me?!" Grumbling a bit, she glared at him and waited for him to dare make a move, "I'm as much one of Lolth's handmaidens as you are... well I'm not brazen enough to provoke her, but that's besides the point."

Nalfien shifted his head to the left then returned it to normal as if dismissing Nalah. At his request the gargantuan polar bear lumbered off behind him and sat right in front of the Underdark entrance, the bear intentionally making each footstep shake the ground slightly with each step before plopping down.
"A good story why you're here, but a female Drow can never be trusted. I am not within your gods reach child, for the gods do not exist, only the Queen looks over us and shows the dead rest or gives them purpose."
At his words, both Kamas were now in his hands as he began walking calmly toward the female Drow with his eyes locked on her with a remorseless visage.

Well, this was going to be fun. As the man called off the bear, Naldyn felt a flicker of hope that she would be able to get out of this without fighting. And then the man began monologuing about how the 'gods' didn't exist and about some queen. It was enough for her. However, she knew that if he was confident enough to call off his bear, she'd need something better than this. Putting her guano back in, she reached for another set of components, some of which he would see sparkle quite brilliantly. Ugh, he was making her burn money on him. This bastard would pay. Her hands glowed briefly as she pressed her hand to her skin, and he would notice that she took on a slightly chalky texture. And then, with that, she pulled out her dagger, her other hand still in her pouch. Well... here went nothing.

As Nalfien took another step, he vanished in a swirl of dark vapor-like mist. Reappearing only a short distance away from the female drow, he came into view in a swirl of blackish mist in a dead sprint, arcing a heavy, strong left slash at the girls neck once he came within range. This was a trick he could only use once in a while.
A part of him however, used this as a test. A little fragment of his mind wanted to believe that she was in fact only here on coincidence, but the other part seethed with hatred. That little fragment caused his swing to fall short, missing the girls neck by a few inches. Cursing his subconscious his eyes flashed from lavender to a slightly lighter shade of purple as they shifted into the infrared spectrum out of habit, even though it would do nothing for what was to come.
With a flick of his fingers the area they were was consumed by a larger than normal pitch black globe of impenetrable darkness. Nalfien then shuffled to the right in order to re-position himself to not be directly in front of the girl in case she decided to toss a rather large element of unpleasant spells where he was once standing.
