“A pleasure, to be certain,” Mavros said as his brother introduced the girl. He looked over her gear and weaponry, taking in the important details as Lefko offered her to speak for herself. He didn't doubt Iola was good, since the headmaster must weed out any unfit students. It would be best to expect all the students they met would be 'good', until someone proved themselves otherwise. It was good at least that she claimed Lefko hadn't offended her, even if the look on her face didn't match the statement. Just so, Mavros would take her at her word, and if she wanted to talk about it, then she would've talked about.
She returned Lefko's gesture of respect, dispelling any further fears Mavros had on her demeanor. He listened attentively as she gave her crossbow a brief explanation, though he expected that the weapon held more secrets then bolts filled with Dust. Such a projectile was par for the course where hunter and huntresses were concerned. His own weapon used a variety of dust rounds for its ammunition.
When his brother queried his absence, showing the picture of Beacon, Mavros considered his options for a moment. It would be rude to exclude Iola from the conversation, and no doubt she would learn of events soon anyway. They were all training to defend the kingdoms anyway, and whether or not they chose to work alone, with a team, or join the Atlesian military was of no consequence to their cooperation.
“Gathering information about our temporary home. The Captain was happy to talk, though I'm afraid he knew little of the trials to come. He seemed quite knowledgeable concerning recent events in Vale however. It would seem there's quite the crime spree at the moment. One one hand the White Fang have grown bolder, turning the faunus protests violent. On the other, a thug named Roman Torchwick has been causing quite a number of problems for the local police. We may wish to offer our assistance brother, if he is not caught soon and our studies do not prove too difficult.”
It was well known to Lefko that his brother had no tolerance for criminals, and the frown on his face was about as much anger as ever touched his face. Mavros chose to exclude Iola from his suggestion, not having fully gotten a read on her quite yet. It wasn't that he doubted her desire to do the right thing. What other reason could one have for training to become a huntress. But taking on extra work only for the good of others was a rare trait. Aside from which, putting those kinds of expectations on someone you'd only just met was simply rude.

“Whether good or evil. Moral or immoral. Just, or injust. With every decision comes a choice. A choice that man must make that will dictate the future of his life. In a world so full of darkness, to do what is right is daily struggle for so many, and they succumb to the desires of selfishness, pride, greed, and hate.
Such actions are base, cruel, and pathetic.
So I will walk the path of righteousness, where so many others have faltered. I will defend those who cannot defend themselves, because it is right. I will uphold justice, because it is right. I will fight the creatures of Grimm and protect the world of man, because it is right. I will be a paragon of light amidst the darkness, because it is right. This is my pledge, and may I uphold it to my dying breath. . . “
It was a long trip from Atlas to Beacon, all things considered, and Mavros could not fault his brother when Lefko easily found sleep. They had trained themselves to take sleep where they could, when they could, at a moments notice. Despite this, Mavros found reaching sleep difficult. In truth, he was excited, a strange emotion for him to be feeling. It came as no real surprise, but when his brother fell asleep yet again, he rose, seeking out the upper decks. He found them easily, and though at first the captain had qualms about him approaching the deck, a quick explanation was enough to dispel any fears the man might've had.
He had chatted with the Captain about his position and life for some time, learning some small bit about their trip to Beacon. Almost an hour had passed before he received a message from his brother, and Mavros bid the Captain farewell, thanking him for his service. On his way out, he snapped a photo for his brother, who clearly seemed to be enjoying the view. He couldn't deny that Beacon looked quite incredible from the airship, and the picture would make a good souvenir as well.
Sending the picture during his descent, it wasn't much longer before he reached the bottom of the steps, coming back into the passenger cabin. His training had him quickly sizing up the location, and he noted the departure of three of the students that had been present before. Likely to the ships wine-bar, though he had no interest in addling his brain just before their arrival to such a prestigious academy. He found concern when he noticed his brother seeming to have a staring conversation with another student, armored and with a large crossbow over her back.
Subconsciously, he put a hand on his sword, striding over to the pair. To the untrained eye, it would seem he was completely relaxed, though it was rare for Mavros to ever truly find himself at ease. They had been taught to expect enemies at any turn, and distrust was a requirement of the Atlesian Specialists. Reaching them in a few strides, he gave a quick bow, giving the student a smile as he rose, shooting a glance between the girl and his brother. As he reached him, it became clear the two were spitting images of one another, save for the slight differences in their armor and gear, as well as the shadow of hair covering Mavros' face.
“Ma'am,” he said politely, doing his best to read into the situation. “Mavros Ariadne, at your service. I do hope my brother hasn't offended you in some way? The way you two are staring at each other, it would seem you are trying to decide whether to fight or court one another. Do be a gentleman and introduce me to your new friend, will you brother?” Though the words might have implied a joke, Mavros' tone showed he was not having a jest at the two's expense. For him, he was simply stating a fact. And, if they were trying to orchestrate some sort of challenge, he hoped at least his presence would defuse the situation somewhat.

Profile:
Name: Mavros Ariadne Age: 18 Gender: Male Species: Human Birthplace: Atlas Counterpart: Lyudmila Pavlichenko
Appearance:
Height: 6'1” Weight: 212 lbs. Eye Color: Yellow Build: Muscular Hair Style: 'Ivy League' Cut Hair Color: Black Skin Color: White Distinguishing Features: Facial hair kept in a 5 o' clock shadow. Attire: Mavros wears a set of slightly modified Atlas soldier armor. The armor plates themselves are a polished silver, with the undersuit that usually has a black color appearing white instead. In the places on the armor such as the collar or armguards that bear additional colors, these places are colored black on Mavros armor. Unlike his brother, Mavros gear lacks the usual helmet utilized by Atlas soldiers. Lastly, secure to the shoulders of his armor, Mavros wears a long white cloak, with a hood to pull over his head. Emblazoned on the back of the coat in black, is a winged sword pointing straight up, set above a sunburst, his symbol.
When at school, Mavros holds to the Beacon Academy uniform. When off-duty, for casual wear, Mavros wears attire similar to that of the Atlas Academy uniform with a white beret, due to his upbringing in a military family.
Weapons and Abilities:
Weapon: Mavros weapon, made during his time in combat school, is a winged longsword named Agios Krisi. The sword itself rests in a scabbard that Mavros carries on his belt at his left hip. Aside from its longsword form, the weapon can fold in half longways, creating a barrel, and turning the weapon into a rifle that can fire in single, burst, or automatic modes. The last mode of the weapon is that the blade can extend further outwards, changing it from an assault rifle into a sniper rifle. Like most weapons, the effect of the rounds changes depending on the type of dust used for ammunition. Equipment: Mavros carries little in the way of equipment, with only a scroll, a wallet, and extra ammunition for his weapon carried on his belt. Abilities: Unlike his brother, Mavros isn't overly strong, however his speed and strength balance out evenly, making him an adept warrior. He is a brilliant tactician, and has a sharp mind for politics and intrigue, though he often finds himself at odds on these points due to intolerance for wrongdoing. Other Skills: Things expected of a soldier, such as map and compass reading, military fortification, and vehicle operation. He also has a head for several board games and card games, though he does not indulge in these often. Aura: Black Semblance: Mavros semblance, dubbed 'Light', gives him a number of abilities involving manipulation and creation of light. He has the ability to make himself appear as a glowing light, or create a flash of light that can temporarily blind opponents. Inversely, he can direct it away from himself, preventing a muzzle flash or glare from his weapon. He can also create tangible 'light screens', that appear in the form of hex patterned yellow light, which can be used as a barrier to block incoming attacks, or as a surface to jump off of. In junction with the sword mode of his weapon, he can also create slashes of light that extend from the arc of the sword, and travel outwards in a crescent shape from the point of origin until colliding with a target or extending beyond the reach of his abilities.
Personality: Like his brother Lefko, Mavros has a very black and white view of the world, though does so in a more abstract form. For Mavros, there is only what is right and what is wrong. While he holds no illusions that sometimes one cannot be achieved without the other, he embraces both so long as the right outweighs the wrong. If he must break an order to save a life, he will do so, and submit himself for discipline afterward. In conversation he is polite, calm, and collected, never displaying malice or insulting others. While he does not support an 'innocent until proven methodology', he will give those whom he believes to be wronged a chance to prove their innocence.
When it comes to being competitive, Mavros lacks the nature his brother has, using the moments as training or a test of his skills rather then any desire to win or be successful. He never balks at a task or objective, regardless of how difficult it might be, with a 'what must be done, must be done attitude.' While he is never rude, he does not hold his tongue for those who do not share his viewpoint, or do what he believes to be wrong, expressing his disappointment to them rather then anger. Still, no matter his relationship with an individual, he will ensure that he does what's right, no matter the cost to himself or anyone around him.
History:
Mavros was born alongside Lefko, his identical twin brother, into the militaristic Ariadne family. A prestigious military family in Atlas, with a legacy of service dating back to the Great War when it was still the Kingdom of Mantle, the Ariadne history held a strong history of military tradition. Like those before them, the boys father, Micah Ariadne, pursued a military career and became a high ranking officer in the Atlesian military. Their mother, Kerria, was a Huntress from Vale whom Micah fell in love with while assisting her on a hunt that took place within Atlas' bounds.
From a young age, Mavros trained alongside his brother under the watchful supervision of their father, their lineage already ensuring their future career. Despite their mothers concerns of placing hardships on the children, Micah was determined they become military personnel like himself, or even go into Special Operations and serve Atlas to the best of their ability. Mavros and his brother Lefko soon developed into competent combatants, training in the standard weaponry of the Atlesian military. On top of this, he and his twin learned how to survive on their own, a skill put to the test when the two young siblings were left alone in the woods for a week by their father; albeit with close monitoring (from their mother at least) to ensure they were never in any real danger. They were kept on a strict diet at all times, and had very sparse comforts at home.
Eventually, Mavros was slotted to go through a specialized military academy by their father alongside Lefko, against the wishes of their mother who wished for them to get a chance to see more of the world. Shipped off to Prometheus Academy, Mavros found that he thrived in the environment, where he developed a very strict definition of what was right and wrong. Unlike his brother however, Mavros found himself alienated from some of the other students due to his adherence at doing what he believed right, reporting misdoings to their superiors, and almost never finding himself in trouble himself. Mavros displayed an exceptional ability as a swordsman and marksman, to which he designed his weapon to complement his skills. Unlike his brother Lefko, despite his skills, Mavros never showed any desire for competition, believing that too much pride in ones abilities could be a downfall.
His brother, with a strong competitive nature, had competed in the regional Atlas tournament however, coming out victorious in their third year at Prometheus Academy. At the order of his father, Mavros participated in the tournament the next year, despite his misgivings. In the final match of the tournament, Mavros found himself pitted against his brother, and despite knowing his brother's competitive spirit, he knew it would be wrong not to give the fight all he had. Ultimately defeating his brother in the one on one combat, though it earned him no friends, he was surprised to find a new found respect from his peers and brother in his display of ability. Though he had expected no less from his brother, Mavros and Lefko began to train more often to hone their abilities.
With their graduation from Prometheus, Kerria finally put her foot down and demanded that Micah allow the boys to be sent to Beacon, to give them an opportunity to train as hunters away from the strictures of the military, in the hope they might have an a chance to make a decision on if they wanted to join the Atlesian military. Knowing of Ironwoods respect for Ozpin, and with a lesser concern after viewing how far his children had come, Micah finally relented relented to their mothers demands. The two applied to Beacon under their parents guidance, and found no surprise when they were accepted, prepared to complete their training in order to become Atlas Specialists.

Legends. . . Stories scattered through time. . . Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past. . .
Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness – creatures of destruction – the creatures of Grimm – set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void.
However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named "Dust". . .
Nature's wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life. . . But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone. . .
Darkness will return. . .

That I am Wake, but last I checked, it's your post now . To be fair though, I had forgotten about it, and Zel reminded me. If I ever don't post in about three days time, and I haven't given a reason for a delay, send me a PM and I'll usually have it up within another 24 hours if my EMS Station isn't swarmed with 911 calls. AKDA seems really good, hopefully Butter and Ghost are good with that as well. If you guys want something else to do while Butter works on getting the thread started, there's a Dust section for the info hub. Since it's clear that dust types can be combined, we may want to decide what the possible combinations beyond the oens we already know are. Specifically, those would be - Air + Gravity Air + Earth Water + Earth Water + Gravity Fire + Earth Fire + Gravity Earth + Gravity It's possible Gravity doesn't combine with anything, but I figured I'd include it for the time being in case anyone has any good ideas.

Have quite a bit of information here, based on questions some of you have asked, and the surprising amount of interest we've gotten for this freeform. Let's hope we can make this work, because I know we're all excited. The first order of business is finishing up the eventual team breakdown. As you've probably seen, Ghost has selected a name for his character, and he and I are working on finishing our characters for the RP. Currently, we've yet to hear from Kap on his choice of Team, so Kap hopefully you read this and we can figure out what you're planning. In the meantime, Butter and I have also moved ahead, and we'll be starting the thread soon, so those of you with finished characters can start some writing. However, there's a few details we need to work out, though we do have some time to do so. With the important details on Ghosts' character finished, we have the letters for the Greek Heroes Motif team. As you know, a teams name needs to be something that invokes a color, using the first letter of the characters first or last name. With this in mind, now that we know Ghosts character name, we'll have to decide on just what that Team name should be. We've done a little bit of peremptory searching, but have turned up with anything perfect just yet. If I've done the math correctly, there are a total of 386 possible letter combinations across 14 groupings of the first and last name equaling four letters. Each of these four letter combinations has a total of 24 possible outcomes, and I went ahead and searched through the first 48. MICL - I didn't really find out anything that stuck out to me here, but if you want to change this into it's 24 different forms to check, feel free. MKCL - I found two possible combinations, MLCK: Milk, and KLCM: Calcium. Personally, I don't like either of those two much, but hey my character isn't on this team. Also, I saw the potential for ICKL: Icicle, though that would require Butter to change Midas' last name to an I, and that would be a last resort. MIDL MKDL MICA MIDA MKDA AICL AKCL AIDL AKDL AICA AIDA AKDA The above 12 are the other possible combinations of First and Last letters of the character names. I haven't separated those into their 24 components yet, but this is a group effort, so I encourage you all to have a look for yourselves, and see if you can't come up with something excellent. It should be noted that Butter noticed that 'MICA' is a type of stone, though said it would fit better if the characters all had precious gem names, rather then basic colors (Midas - Gold, Iola - Purple, Crimson - Red, Lefko - White.) Following on with the team basis, (and this is important for you Kap), is that I an making a twin to Ghosts character, both of whom hail from Atlas. My character's counterpart is Lyudmila Pavlichenko, so he - Mavros Ariadne - will be on the Gender Bent Warrior team, along with Stel's Black Knight. Furthermore, Butter is working on a Gender Bent Attila the Hun, which will give us three members for the Gender Bent Warrior team. Kap, if you decide to make a fourth character for the team, we'll be at a solid four person PC's for each of the teams. If that's not your thing though, don't let us discourage you. Multiple people have expressed they're willing to make a second character, so we can try and make it work, whatever you decide. The only real thing here is time. Not to rush you, but we are getting pretty excited to start.
Onward, more then one of you have expressed interest in creating more characters, pc's or npc's, villains or heroes, for use in the RP. While we haven't quite gotten that far, Butter and I have quite a few of these planned out on our own. With this being said, since we do have a limit on how many first years, teachers, antagonists, or teams we can have, we thought it would be better to forgo some of the usual secrecy in favor of cooperation for the good of the RP. To that end, we encourage you all to come up with your own NPC's, teams, etc, so long as it doesn't exceed what we would reasonably have. However, sifting through this planning thread for specific information could be pretty troublesome if it grows ten pages long, which at this rate seems possible. For this reason, Butter and I are working on a Info Hub, which some of you may have seen. The idea behind this, is to put all our necessary canon info on that thread, so we have a quick and easy reference to any information we may need down the line. As events occur in character, and more information is revealed, one of us will add to the Info Hub, making sure it stays up to date. This includes anything the rest of you come up with. Before we add those though, we'd like for you to post up information about your idea here, so we can verify it's integrity and make sure we feel it fits the world and doesn't conflict with what we already have planned. To put this simply, if you have an idea for something, put it here, and we can talk about it. If we were writing for RWBY, this would be our storyboarding room, or Fort Port, or wherever it is the Kerry and Miles sit while they're writing. Already, we've seen some excellent ideas, such as the color for steam dust, or the name of the primary combat school for Vacuo. These of course will be added to our Info Hub, one in a section for locations, the other for a section on dust. A last note about this info hub, is that we're going to include some rules for you to follow both for the IC thread, and for creating canon for our RP. Don't worry, this isn't going to be anything major that you would be doing anyway, just reminders for how Remnant works, what we're expecting out of this RP, and how we should achieve that with breaking the canon. An example of this is putting characters under different categories. For example, Team RWBY and JNPR will be under the 'Heavily Restricted' category. This is to say, that we're going to try avoiding using these characters IC, but if you have an idea to include them in the story, let's talk about it in this Story Planning and see if we agree that it's a good idea. Lightly Restricted will be for people like our canon Teachers. We definitely want to use these beyond making references to them, but since they have distinct personalities make sure you're doing your best to get the character right, and we can help you out with that as a group. These restrictions are going to be detailed on the info hub, so don't worry about having to come back to this post, we have you covered. If there was any confusion in this, feel free to point it out, and I'll be happy to explain further. We'll want to heavily use this story planning to keep the RP going smoothly, so always be sure to check here regularly, even after the relevant information you might need is put up on the Info Hub. It's currently under construction, but you can find it here.

I think he was referring to Butter's suggestion, Wake. Oh and Stel, and Wake seeing as how both your characters are from Atlas you could do the same, if you wanted. Butter and I talked about how to start off the thread, and I think we've decided on the characters coming in on separate airships, depending on their point of origin. That would mean characters from Vale would come in on the ship with Ruby, Yang, and Jaune, characters from Atlas would come in on a ship from that kingdom (Iola and Oliviaer), characters from Mystral would come in on a ship with Pyrrha, and characters from Vacuo would come in on a ship with Midas. This isn't to say that those characters have to approach and interact with each other, just that it's a reasonable way for them to arrive at Beacon. You're welcome to make introductions to one another, talk with NPC's, or simply stare out a window and marvel at the view.

You've more or less got it, yeah.
The first decided upon team was the Greek Myths team, whose motif became a possibility after Butter posted his character, and was solidified after Wake made hers. As you noticed, that one is full, since Artemis has decided on a Pandora counterpart, and I believe Ghost said he would be making a character with Ajax as a counterpart.
The second team has a number of possible motif's that could be implemented, depending on what you choose. Since Stel has finalized upon a Gender-bent Black Knight as his characters counterpart. The Gender-bent part (like with team JNPR) is necessary, but this could imply Gender-bent Knights, Gender-Bent Warriors, Gender-Bent Anti-Heroes or even Gender-Bent Villains. Remember that Cinder's counterpart is Cinderella, so just because a character's counterpart is evil does not mean the character has to be, or vice-versa.The final decision on what the second team motif will actually entail is up to you, if you choose to make a character for it.
The third team doesn't exist right now. Between yourself, Butter, Wake, Stel, Arte, Ghost, and myself, we have a total of seven people. This means that at the least, we're going to have at least one team with an NPC or secondary PC on it. Butter, Wake, and I are all prepared to make a secondary character, and I have probably about twenty character ideas at this point. The short of it is, if any of the possibilities for the second teams motif doesn't appeal to you, you can decide on your own for whatever character you might like, and we'll fill in with PC's or NPC's as needed.
I wouldn't about that Wake. Our storyline is more or less laid out for us up to the end of volume 3, and perhaps even afterwards since I doubt we'll get that far before volume 4 begins. When we're talking about these skips, we're only referring to things like sleep time, or those of longer periods of time. We probably won't roleplay through the entirety of every class the characters have until the vytal festival - that would just wind up boring everyone.

True enough Stel. It may not seem like too much time in the series, but it'll be quite a awhile before we reach the Battle of Beacon, even with some time skips of our own. Also, we don't see too much in the way of classes at Beacon, with minimal mention of other professors, like Professor Peach. We'll be touching on these some as well I'm sure, so it'll probably take us even longer to reach the Battle of Beacon with the possibility of extra activities we didn't see in the series. Remember, that there is also RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, and that plot is technically canon as well.
As for your character, that should all be fine. Where the couterpart is concerned, remember it doesn't have to be perfectly what you might expect, just share some similarities. In this case being the use of a sword, and an anti-hero type personality of some sort. While Ruby might share very apparent similarities with little red riding hood, Blake barely shares any similarities with Belle - specifically her love of books, and the 'beast' which can be interpreted both as being a Faunus, or her relationship with 'Adam.'

For Stelpher:
Concerning Semblance - So, there are a number of things you could do instead, and like Butter said we're willing to offer suggestions. When it comes to hauling around Dust magazines, we only see it as a hassle, however this is an important aspect of being a warrior. Maintaining your weapon, and ammo. Dust is Remnant's equivalent of Oil, which is why it's such an important part of the world. I'd urge you to look beyond the annoyance, and into the possibilities. Running out could lead to interesting situations in the field, where it might be hard to come by. An unfortunate predicament for a character, one they might try to avoid, but an excellent one for a writer.
Now then, where alternatives are concerned, you mentioned that your main concern was an inability to avoid attacks. To a certain extent this isn't a bad thing. We see this type of behavior with Coco, who gets a beating by Mercury, but balance calls for these types of situation. To excel in one area you must sacrifice in another, or be moderate in all forms like a 'jack of all trades.' That being said, twice in the series already we've seen individuals whose semblance involves a reaction to external forces. The more punishment she takes, the stronger Yang becomes. Adam on the other hand, appears to absorb energy with his sword, then unleash a devastating attack. While we obviously don't want to reuse anything, having a similar ability might not be amiss. Your characters semblance could be a retaliatory shockwave, that pushes everything around her away after she's harmed. Another option could be that your character gains speed rather then power, when taking punishment.
If you'd like to go in a different direction, and you go for the Knight counterpart, you could also have the semblance make something akin to a shield or forcefield to block incoming attacks. Sort of like an extension of her aura. This would give her some limited protection from impact, though only at a directed area. If these don't satisfy you, I'm sure we can all put our heads together and come up with something.
Concerning Dust - I too like your dust, and how the ice dust color and fire dust color more or less create the lavender color when you consider mixing. Considering we dont actually have any information on steam dust besides it exists, I think we should hold to this, and use that formula for any other dusts we decide to create. Nice work.
Concering Brunstad: The main thing here is that if you want to use a ported weapon, we at least need to get it. . . . RWBY-ified. As Butter mentioned, weapons really aren't a mobile detriment to Hunters or Huntresses. Even the biggest ones reduce to a smaller size. I can see the appeal of having it that large and heavy, and having to carry it around, but not having an inert mode just doesn't seem to fit the universe.
As for the six shot cannon, honestly this is much better then what we thought we had. Having a few devastating shots isn't that bad, and we were picturing something more along the lines of the self-loading, rapid-fire autocannons. Honestly it sounds more akin to a rocket launcher or anti tank rifle, so this should be alright since it isn't much of a ranged weapon, and would only serve a purpose similar to what we saw with Nora firing all of her hammer's grenades at once. If you plan to hold to this weapon, make sure you read my note to everyone at the end of this post, after I reply to Arte. It's going to be relevant to your character, based on your weapon and semblance.
For Artemis:
If you aren't happy with your choices for team motif's, then don't hesitate to come up with your own. Butter and I have already discussed the need to make more character's so every team will have at least two player characters. We'll make sure you've got someone else to write back and forth with, and that every team has the necessary four members, be they PCs or NPCs. As for the plans for the RP, you know the beginning, and you know up to volume three, but if you're curious we can go into a little more detail. Just keep on reading, and hopefully I'll answer your questions.
For Everyone:
As it currently stands, we'll either have two or three player character teams, the first consisting of greek mythology theme, which will be a composition of at least Butter, Wake, and Ghost. The second team will either be a criminal or gender-bent knight team likely, or something else dependent on what Stel chooses. This team will also likely consist of Stel, Butter, and myself. If Arte isn't satisfied with either of these team motif's, we'll make characters for that team as well. Aside from this, both doing math and looking at the early episodes, something we've mentioned before is that there are/were at least 40 first year students that attended Beacon. For some other random numbers, there were 14 on the airship in episode 1, 11 of these unintroduced characters, and probably eighty at Ozpin's speech in episode three. At the very least it was more then forty. As that speech was for new students, it'd be surprising if any second years or beyond were in the main hall for that. Our biggest indicator that Beacon is larger then we get to see is in volume 2, chapter 7, where we get to the dance. They designed a lot of characters for that, and all of them are supposed to be hunters and huntresses. Barely any of them have been shown before or introduced.
This brings me to two points. The first of which, is that if you're looking for a character picture to use, they've rendered a lot of faces for random scenes throughout the series. Even if your character isn't in gear, it at least might give you something to work with. RWBY has a pretty unique art style, so it's hard to find things that work. The second point, is that there are a LOT of potential characters. We'll have plenty of NPCs to work with. Butter and I have discussed some of these.
On top of this, our story is more or less laid out for us, as we move through each of the episodes. We'll have some variation with the field missions, the Dance, The Vytal Festival, but we all know what happens at the end of Volume 3. With Torchwick out of the picture, Team RWBY. . . JNPR. . . RJNR. . . . whatever off hunting Cinder and crew, we will need a plot. Especially considering Beacon appears to be closed for the time being.
I've got something lined up, and a villain we'll be seeing at some point before we reach the Battle of Beacon. His name is Pitch. That's all you're getting on him for now. So if any of you are worried you need to force conflict in, don't feel like you have to. It's always important not to force a character into something, but let them evolve naturally over time. If they become an antagonist that's fine, just let it happen naturally.
One more thing I'd like to mention, before anyone feels like their character is finalized, is to consider how the character moves. In the series, we see Ruby, Yang, and Nora propelling themselves with their weapons. Characters like Blake and Weiss use their semblance for acrobatics. If you don't include something for this, remember that the characters don't actually seem to have superhuman strength, speed, or agility in most cases - with the exception of a semblance. Obviously they have superhuman resistance to impact, what with the aura, but that's about as far as it goes. Leaving out movement capability is going to keep you grounded, and have you moving like Jaune or Coco. Slow and with little acrobatic capabilities beyond the norm.
As always, feel free to hit up me and Butter if you have any more questions, or anything's unclear. Cheers.

That depends on what we decide collectively as a group. Since there are 5 of us currently, that leaves a team split of 2 and 3 across two teams (with NPC's filling the slots) or a four person team with one odd man out (if necessary, I'll be on the separate team.) Or it could also play out with something like 2-2-1. Regardless, to better answer the question of what we're looking for, since it sounds like you don't have something particular in mind already, I think we should wait until Stel posts his sheet, and then go from there.

(Apologies on the delay. Either I didn't notice or completely forgot that Zel had already posted, and he reminded me this morning I was up. >.< )
At Swindon's question, Rhithia shook her head no, running a finger through her hair and ruffling it. “Not usually, no. There have been a few times though,” she explained, while moving to retrieve her helmet. “There's always that chance a gang stumbles on our safehouse, or one of underworld freaks find their way here. Cthon, ghouls, hive rats. And I'd rather the CSF find us then a Taozin slink it's way in here.”
At Swindon's embaressment, Rhit waved a hand in dismissal. Living with Blink and Homicide in such a small space, it was likely that she was used to people looking at their worst. While Swindon departed for the main to retrieve her bag, Rhit occupied herself with adjusting her armor, making sure everything was in order after her sleep.
The main room was devoid of most everything the Mandalorian's had brought with them, all of the holodisplay's loaded into their ship, leaving all the tables devoid of adornment. All that remained was a single device sitting on the main table, which was where the news was playing in a projection against the far wall. Near her bag of clothes, the small storage crate with her energy cube sat sealed, the only storage crate left in the room.
By the projector, Blink was leaning on the far end of the table, her helmet under one hand as she watched the reporter displayed on the wall. A bag of snack food sat on the table by Homicide, who currently had a fruit bar of some kind in his hand, snacking on it. It was clear by food, Blink had not meant an actual meal.
Noticing Swindon standing there, Homicide swallowed a bite he had taken, then spoke to her in his usual gruff tone. “I'd have a look at that box of yours. Went to load it on, but it felt.. . Hot. Didn't want to mess with it until you'd looked at it. Thing isn't going to blow up on us is it?”
“That's the plan. Aria's going to meet me there, and dispatch will keep track of me. Standard precautions.”
“There is, but I don't know how long our interview with the senator might take. You may want to check with them after you're done at the Inquirer. Though I doubt they'd be very happy with you, considering how things are going.”
As Buhel announced they had arrived at the Inquirer, Stormrider bid them farewell and the connection ended. The zabrak shook his head as the duros climbed out, following slowly and sighing. “Well, at least we aren't completely in the dark now. Maybe we'll get something out of this trap after all, though I doubt it.”
The hangar was more or less filled with an assortment of speeders, closed and open, and even a few bikes. Typical of a busy establishment in these upper levels, even if it was a place with as terrible a reputation as the Galactic Inquirer. Without the authority of the CSF behind them, they might've had a long walk, but leaving the vehicle settled right next to the front door was typical behavior of emergency speeders.
“Well, guess we better get on with it,” Ralak said, before heading for the front door and stepping through the sliding doorways that parted to grant them entrance. Inside, the news office was clearly full of itself, with framed articles plastered over almost every inch of wall. Directly in front of the doors an overweight Correlian sat staring at a holodisplay, who looked up in surprise at seeing the CSF officers enter.
“I'm Detective Ralak, this is Detective Buhel with the CSF. We need to speak with one. . .” he trailed off for a second, checking information on a smaller display on his wrist link. “. . . Dennis Fothwire. Where can we find him?”

If you absolutely cannot think of a counterpart, then I suppose not, however it is possible that all characters do have a'counterpart' which in term plays out to their theme. We don't know all of them for certain, but there are fan theories for every character.
The team-theme itself is geared towards the breakdown of the team (RWBY is fairy tales, JNPR is gender bended heroes, CRDL is birds, CFVY is sweets, and so on.) This one is going to be a bit harder to hold true to.
If you're having trouble picking a counterpart, remember that these characters typically don't go any further then occasional references. Ruby's only real link to Little Red Riding Hood is her young age and her attire. Jaune's reference barely seems to stretch beyond the name.
With Butter already having his character complete, it could also help you narrow things down by considering what the team-theme might be. Things that immediately come to mind are royalty, kings/queens, greed, riches, an obsession with gold, and cursed individuals.
Either way, if you're still having troubles, feel free to post what you have, and butter and I might be able to give you a hand.

RWBY (pronounced Ruby) is an acronym consisting of the first letter of four teammates first names, and serves as the title of a show that follows the story of these teammates (and others). The show itself is a 3D animated web-series created by RoosterTeeth (and the writers behind Red vs Blue, the longest running and most successful web series on the internet,) which has anime-influences and characters influenced by fairy tales and historical legends (Little Red Riding Hood, Achilles, Beauty and the Beast, and even Nyan Cat).
The show currently has 3 volumes (seasons), and is slated to receive a fourth this fall. It also has a video game RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, and a spin-off show, RWBY Chibi. The show itself has received two Best Animated Series awards.
I could go on, but I think that more then answers your question xD
